FRIENDS OF OAK PARK SCHOOLS
|
Our local property taxes only provide about 1/3 of the funding for our schools in Oak Park with the bulk of the funding coming from the State of
California. This ratio is true for most school districts in the state. We all know that funding to schools in our state over the last few years has
not been addition, Oak Park Unified School District has now become a “shrinking” district, which we anticipate this to be a trend for the next
few years, and since we are funded “per pupil”, by the state, we face a continuing negative effect on our financial situation.
We are a community that has a strong tradition of sharing responsibility, especially when it comes to our children’s schools. But there is
need to further supplement the funding that Oak Park schools receive. That is why we have established the “Friends of Oak Park Schools” as
an educational foundation that will augment the resources available to our schools and preserve programs that are in danger of reduction,
allow us to keep and maintain our quality staff, and provide our children with the best possible educational experience.
We appreciate the support of our community in both financial terms and in volunteerism. If you would like to receive more information on how
you can donate funds to Friends or assist us with our events or join our board, please contact us at 818-735-3270.
Who is on the Board of the Organization?
The directors are parents and community leaders dedicated to working with the superintendent, school board, school-based PTAs & PFCs,
and parents. There are representatives on the board from each of the five schools in the Oak Park Unified School District, as well as
community members who no longer have children in the District.
