SUMMER SCHOOL 2012
Friends of Oak Park Schools’ is excited to present our second year of administering the Summer School Program for OPUSD Students. This program is designed to enhance your student’s education experiences and opportunities in our own backyard. Friends of Oak Park Schools is proud to step in where, due to the education cuts from the State, OPUSD can no longer afford to offer summer school.
All classes taken at the High School will be taught by certificated teachers and the grades will be transferred to the student’s transcripts.
Friends will again offer a Middle School program at Medea Creek and new this year ~ An Elementary Summer School Program which will provide a terrific educational experience for your student!
In late February, more information regarding the specifics of each program will be distributed and also be available here on this website.
In addition, registration materials, as well as class lottery information for impacted high school class offerings will be posted on this website in the evening of March 1st.

Thank you to all of our 2011-2012 contributors!
When economic times are tough, School Districts throughout the State of California must rely on their Education Foundations to help supplement school funding. In many cases, these Education Foundations provide programs that would not otherwise be offered by their districts. Isn’t it great to have “Friends”? In the past six years, Friends of Oak Park Schools has contributed almost $600,000 in funding support that reaches all of the students in our district. However we still need your help reaching our 2011-2012 objectives for our schools!
Did you know that our local property taxes only provide about 1/3 of the funding for our schools in Oak Park? The bulk of the funding comes from the State of California. We all know that funding to the schools in our state has been significantly reduced and we believe this to be a trend for at least the next few years; meaning we face a continuing negative effect the financial situation for our schools.
More than ever, we need your help, and your contributions!
Our “Dollar a Day” program will help ensure that our programs will remain intact.
One of the valuable programs that Friends of Oak Park Schools currently funds is a Science Specialist Program, which has helped us retain, enhance and create the following:
- Outdoor Elementary and Middle School education trips, including Catalina and Santa Cruz Islands
- Enhancement of the OPUSD Sustainable Gardens Project
- Middle and High School Robotics and Solar Car Programs
- New Marine Science Program
- This year’s Idea to Impact Competition Program
Our School District is something that defines the community of Oak Park. As the foundation donations grow, the additional innovative program support will grow as well.
Over 98% of our graduating seniors continue on to college. This accomplishment speaks volumes about our student’s commitment and the district’s accomplishments.
Please help us retain this successful tradition of enhancing the educational excellence with a contribution to Friends of Oak Park Schools’ annual fund campaign. Your financial support is for our next generation of decision makers and leaders.
Thank you in advance for your continued support…it always helps to have “Friends!”
